Summary:Unstacking device for removing boards (20) from a stack (18) comprises a detector for detecting a number of boards within the stack. The detector comprises a camera (50a) directed at the side of the stack and an analyzer that determines the number of light/dark transitions in the camera's signal and thus the number of boards. The device also includes a sensor (22) for measuring the height of the stack and a control unit (24) that uses the measured height to determine a vertical target position for a pusher unit (48). The device can include several cameras, especially two directed at one side of the stack and one directed at the opposite side.
