Summary:Production of glass comprises: (i) forming a glass melt (20) in a melting device (10) having a part with a metal surface in contact with the melt in a first region with a high oxygen partial pressure; (ii) producing a lower oxygen partial pressure than on the contact surface in a second region of the melt; immersing an electrode; and (iii) electrically connecting an electrode and metal part. An Independent claim is also included for a device for producing glass from a glass melt comprising an electrode (60) for suppressing the formation of oxygen bubbles on metal parts in contact with the melt. Preferred Features: The electrode is bombarded with a reducing gas, preferably hydrogen, water vapor, air or inert gas. The oxygen partial pressure of the melt is measured using a probe and the partial pressure necessary to rinse the electrode is regulated with the signal produced.
