Summary:During at least one cutting step a piece is cut from the tobacco cake (1) which is significantly wider than that cut in the other cutting steps. A tobacco cake is supplied to a nozzle (5) and as it exits the nozzle it is cut using a knife apparatus (6, 7), preferably a rotating knife drum (7). The circumferential distance between two or more of the blades on the knife drum is greater than that between any other two adjacent blades. An Independent claim is also included for the tobacco cutting machine.
