Summary:The current converter has an even number of gate-turn-off thyristors (GTO1,GTO2) connected in series, with an anti-parallel diode (D1,D2) across each thyristor. The ratio between the anode current and the maximum gate current of each thyristor is less than 1, with a rapid increase in the gate current so that the maximum gate current is reached within less than 2 microseconds. A free-running circuit (2) is provided between the series thyristor circuit and the DC voltage source (Uzk).
