Vulcanisible rubber composition containing at least one functionalised dienic polymer and carbon black with silica fixed to its surface as reinforcing filler is claimed in which the polymer is functionalised by an agent with formula (Y)m-R -Si(OR )3-nR n in which Y = (I) or (II) ; R = 1-10C alkoyl, cycloalkoyl or aryl; R = 1-12C alkoyl, cycloalkoyl, aryl, alkylaryl or arylalkyl; R = 1-12C alkoyl, aryl, alkylaryl; R = 1-6C hydrocarbon with one or more oxygen atoms; n = 0 or 1; m = 1 or 2; and p, q = 0, 1, 3 or 4 so that p + q =2-5; polymer satisfying relationships PF = Ns divided by ÄNp x fn) ≥ 0.85 and PV = Ne divided by (Ns x m) ≥ 0.90 in which Ns = number of mol. of silicon, Np = number of mol. of functionalised polymer, fn = functionality of polymerisation initiator, and ne = number of mol. of epoxy functions linked to extremity of chain. Also claimed are pneumatic tyre and tread made from the composition.
