Summary:An h-BN type ceramic having good resistence to melt damage caused by melts is claimed obtd.by incorporating at least 50% h-BN and 1 to less than 50% composite cpd (I) composed of at least 2 cpds. from AlN; Si3N4; Al2O3 and SiO2 in a sinter. Further incorporation of at least one cpd. from AlN; So3N4, Al2O3 and SiO2 in amt. less than 30% in addition to (I) markedly improves the welting resistance and the thermal shock resistance as well as the resistance against fusing damages. (I) pref. comprises cpds. of formula Al6 Si2 O13; Si3Al3O3N5; Al303N or Si6Al10021 N4.
