Summary:1457069 Preparation of N-formyl diindole alkaloids RICHTER GEDEON VEGYESZETI GYAR RT 19 Dec 1974 [20 Dec 1973] 54964/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for preparing N-formyl diindole alkaloids wherein the formyl group is attached to an indole nitrogen atom by oxidizing the corresponding diindole alkaloid having a methyl group attached to an indole nitrogen atom using oxygen in formic acid in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal of Group VIII of the Periodic Table. The process may be effected in the presence of an aromatic solvent such as benzene. Examples of the catalyst are platinum black, platinum sponge and palladium. The process is exemplified by oxidation of vinblastine to vincristine and leurosine to N- formyl leurosine.
