Characterization of Vitamin K from the Contents of Bovine Rumen1

Samples of vitamin K isolated from the contents of bovine rumen were identified by chromatographic mobility, ultraviolet absorption spectra and mass spectra as menaquinones-10, 11, 12 and 13. The occurrence of these vitamins in the rumen supports the view that menaquinones-10, 11 and 12, isolated ea...

Summary:Samples of vitamin K isolated from the contents of bovine rumen were identified by chromatographic mobility, ultraviolet absorption spectra and mass spectra as menaquinones-10, 11, 12 and 13. The occurrence of these vitamins in the rumen supports the view that menaquinones-10, 11 and 12, isolated earlier from bovine liver, were bacterial in origin and were deposited in liver after intestinal absorption.
