Fabrication of dense bulk nano-Si 3N 4 ceramics without secondary crystalline phase

A two-step sintering approach was developed to enhance densification with minimum grain growth for bulk nano-Si 3N 4 ceramics. Addition of Y 2O 3 changes the primary phase field, giving rise to β-Si 3N 4 with nano-scale grain size and near full density without Si 2N 2O phase.
