Mössbauer studies on effects of Be for magnetic properties of rare-earth intermetallic compounds R 2Fe 17Be

The lattice parameters, magnetization and Curie temperature of R 2Fe 17 decrease with addition of small metal Be, while they increase with the addition of H and N. Mössbauer studies have been performed and the hyperfine fields at four Fe sites 12j(18f), 12k(18h), 6g(9d), 4f(6c) in R 2T 17 structure...

Summary:The lattice parameters, magnetization and Curie temperature of R 2Fe 17 decrease with addition of small metal Be, while they increase with the addition of H and N. Mössbauer studies have been performed and the hyperfine fields at four Fe sites 12j(18f), 12k(18h), 6g(9d), 4f(6c) in R 2T 17 structure were estimated. The hyperfine fields of R 2Fe 17Be are smaller than those of R 2Fe 17. The effect of Be on the hyperfine field at the 12k(18h) site is the largest, then at the 12j(18f) site, then the 6g(9d) site. This fact suggests that the Be atoms place at the 2a(3a) site, because these correspond to distances from 2a site to four Fe sites.
