Synthesis of 5,6-dihydro-4 H-pyrido[3,2,1- jk]carbazoles via intermolecular [4+2] cycloaddition

4-, 4,5- and 4,6-Substituted 5,6-dihydro-4 H-pyrido[3,2,1- jk]carbazoles are synthesized regioselectively from carbazole by a novel, two step sequence. A novel, two step synthesis of a range of substituted 5,6-dihydro-4 H-pyrido[3,2,1- jk]carbazoles was reported starting from carbazole.
