Summary:Single crystals of rare-earth-doped aluminates of alkaline earth SrAl 2O 4 : Eu 2+, Dy 3+ and CaAl 2O 4 : Eu 2+, Nd 3+, were grown by the laser-heated pedestal growth method. They show bright and long persistent green and purple phosphorescence, respectively. The decay dynamics of the afterglow and the thermoluminescence properties of the samples indicate that multiple trapping centers are involved in the phosphorescence dynamic processes.
