Summary:The chapter discusses the design of Ma On Shan recreation centre. The various structural engineering design aspects of the steel roof structure of Ma On Shan Indoor Recreation Centre are described in the chapter. The structural analysis of the roof structure is carried out by the QSE analytical program. A three-dimensional structural model including the steel roof structure and the reinforced column-beam frames at the supports is formed for the analysis and the design of the roof structure. It is recognized that only the combined response of all the members of the project team to the requirements of the constraints of the brief and the site could generate such a dramatic solution for the steel roof of Ma On Shan Indoor Recreation Centre. The design met the required level of image/ esteem value of the project. Being an important community building in a park context, the massing and the architectural form of the design, the steel roof structure particularly, represents a positive contribution to the visual environment.
