Summary: | The chapter describes various construction aspects of the steel roof structure of Ma On Shan Indoor Recreation Centre. It is recognized that the key to the success of the project is the combined effort of both the design and construction teams. Being an important community building in a park context, the massing and the architectural form of the design, the steel roof structure particularly, represents a positive contribution to the visual environment. Ma On Shan Indoor Recreation Centre is elliptical in plan with an inclined base wall. The Indoor Recreation Centre is also featured with a dramatic curved roof rising 22 m above the ground. The curved roof is clad with aluminum standing seam roof system, supported by two curved main steel trusses spanning 70 m longitudinally together with secondary steel trusses spanning transversely. To ensure lateral structural stability and integrity, the trusses are linked together by a series of ties and bracings. |
