Summary:Pure SnO 2 and SnO 2-Cr 2O 3 samples of varying chemical compositions were prepared and calcined in the temperature range 673–973 K. The structural properties were determined using the DTA and XRD techniques and the textural properties were investigated from the adsorption of nitrogen at 77 K. In the investigated temperature range no spinel structure was detected. Moreover, Cr 2O 3 was only detected when it exceeded 15%. The surface area, total pore volume and mean pore radius generally increase with chromia content. Sintering starts to predominate above 500°C and leads to a decrease in the surface area and in pore widening.
