Summary:Two new C 30-terpene quinone methides, named cryptoquinonemethides D and E, were isolated from the cones of Cryptomeria japonica, in addition to three known quinone methides, chamaecydin, isochamaecydin, and chamaecydinol. The structures of new quinone methides were characterized as 21α- and 21β-hydroxy-21-deoxochamaecydins by chemical and spectroscopic methods. Furthermore, the structure of isochamaecydin was reinvestigated and determined unambiguously.
