Summary:Single crystals of a new mixed valence titanium aluminium oxide have been prepared by chemical vapor transport technique, Al 2Ti 7O 15: M r = 629.25; monoclinic, C2 m ; a = 17.674(2) Å, b = 2.9737(8)Å, c = 9.358(1) Å, β = 98.66(1)°, V = 486.2Å 3, Z = 2; D x = 4.298 Mg m −3, λ(Mo Kα) = 0.71069 Å, μ = 57.0 cm −1, F(000) = 600, T = 293 K, R = 0.020, R w = 0.023 for 837 unique reflections collected up to θ = 35° and 75 variable parameters. The structure consists of a cubic close-packed oxygen atom array with four crystallographically independent titanium atoms distributed in octahedra forming rutile chains parallel to b-sharing edges and corners and sharing corners with neighboring chains of aluminum atoms located in tetrahedral sites.
