Summary:Whisker-like crystals of SmBa 2Cu 3O y were prepared on the surface of melt-textured bulk SmBa 2Cu 3O y. The whisker-like crystals may be either an assembly of whiskers stacked with the same orientation (including single whiskers), or in the form of one-dimensional layered polycrystals, composed of lamellar grains misoriented towards each other. The whisker-like crystals possess the perovskite structure. Their surface morphologies were investigated.
