Rotational relaxation in H 2 and D 2 due to collisions with noble gas atoms

Easily computable expressions for inelastic collision cross sections, for rotational transitions in H 2 and D 2 molecules due to collisions with inert gas atoms, have been derived, using the distorted wave approximation. Summary:Easily computable expressions for inelastic collision cross sections, for rotational transitions in H 2 and D 2 molecules due to collisions with inert gas atoms, have been derived, using the distorted wave approximation. ( Z rot) 20, ( Z rot) 31, ( Z rot) 42, and ( Z rot) 53 have been numerically calculated. The results are found to be in good agreement with experiment.
