Summary:The distribution and site of synthesis of cytochrome b 5 was studied by antibody precipitation of the enzyme labeled in vivo . The enzyme is present in rough and smooth microsomes, Golgi and outer mitochondrial membranes. The cytochrome is synthesized only on bound ribosomes, where glucosamine and galactose moieties are also added. The enzyme seems to be devoid of mannose and sialic acid residues.
