Summary:Incidence rate and mortality rate of acute cardiovascular disease(CVD), especially acute myocardial infarction(AMI)are significantly higher in cold environment. This may be closely related to sympathetic activation, blood viscosity change, coagulation activation, oxidative stress, inflammatory response and other factors affecting plaque stability by cold stimulation. Winter swimming is a kind of sports exposed to extreme cold pressure. People who often engage in winter swimming will have different degrees of cold adaptation, which may provide some protection to cardiovascular system against cold exposure.
