Summary:The role of automotive design is evolving very quickly. Designers are finding themselves involved in new domains which require a different skill set, different tools, and more importantly a fresh mindset. As designers we are supposed to be able to manage and adapt to current changes, and be prepared for future challenges. The challenge of the future seems to be about the design implementation, and vice versa, about the implementation of new innovations into the automotive design process. In terms of new technologies, it is important to explore their potential to become useful tools. At present, a doctoral research is being carried out at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, which deals with the implementation of mixed reality technologies into design processes. This article brings a talk about the application of emerging technologies of reality distortion into design practice, such as Virtual, Augmented, or Mixed Reality. The article also attempts to propose a hypothesis about questioning the role of the mentioned technologies in different phases of the design process, being explored in the authors’ doctoral research.
