Summary:Purpose: It was aimed to evaluate whether the young men who applied to the urology outpatient clinic knew the relationship between smoking and urological diseases. Materials and Methods: Young male patients who applied to the urology outpatient clinic in our hospital were included in the study. Socioeconomic and demographic data of all participants were recorded. Whether the relationship between kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers, erectile dysfunction, and infertility with smoking is known was evaluated with a multi-choice questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the patients was 23.3±2.1. The relationship of smoking with infertility was the most known with 69.6%, while the least known was bladder cancer with 29.1%. While kidney cancer, bladder cancer and erectile dysfunction awareness increased significantly with education, there was no significant increase in prostate cancer and erectile dysfunction awareness. Conclusion: Although the relationship between infertility and smoking is known b the majority, the relationship between a more important pathology such as bladder cancer and cigarette smoking is very low. Therefore, it should be explained to the young population that smoking is also a risk factor for urooncological diseases.
