Summary:This article relates the creation of a mathematical research team in Algiers from 1966 to 1978. The first part is descriptive ; we describe the circumstances of the launching of a graduate curriculum and the difficulties we met. We explain why and how the academic year 1972-73 appears as a double turning point in the life and the structure of the team. The second part puts together a few reflections based on elements contained in the first one. We are interested in the motivations of the various actors and we examine the obstacles we met in implementing this project. In particular, we emphasize the impact of the training in France, which is a genuine dogma for many mathematicians. Finally, we indicate the circumstances, which led us to think that we could overcome, in part at least, some of these obstacles.
