Summary: | Doi: 10.5902/2179769215207 Objective: to describe the profile of the cases of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome in Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, from 1980 to 2013. Method: descriptive and quantitative study, in which data was collected in May 2014 by the Computer Department of the Unified Health System. Results: 4666 cases were diagnosed in the period analyzed, from which 66.6% were male, 82.6% between 20 and 49 years old, 31.6% were pardos and predominantly with low education level. The category with most common exposure was the heterosexuals, both for males and females. Conclusion: in Rio Grande do Norte, during the period studied, the epidemiological profile showed a predominance of males in economically active age and with low level of education. Identifying these epidemiological characteristics can contribute to the strategic planning of health actions involving health and nursing professionals. |
