Summary:Using the many itineraries to the Holy Land as a source, La fazienda de Ultramar, one of the earliest examples of Castilian prose, incorporates a guide for pilgrims to its rewriting of the Old Testament. Through the compilation of images and stories that usually show the encyclopaedic knowledge of those who cultivated the genre known as itinerarium, this pioneering translation of the Holy Scriptures allows us to explore the way in which the lore of Eastern geography was promoted in the Iberian Peninsula during the thirteenth century. The purpose of this study will be to analyse the interaction of these textual traditions and the way in which the structure of this itinerarium affects the treatment of the holy text, to examine the fashion in which the narrative logic of the biblical episodes is subjected to geographical depiction.
