Summary:Abstract> The objective of this descriptive-transversal research was to identify certain biological aspects of phlebotominae captured at Pico Pico Forest, Lara State, during 1992-1998 in order to prepare a documentary film showing the whole process and its results. The capture of phlebotominae was made with Shannon traps, CDC, manually and with human fat. The captured specimens were taken to the Entomology Laboratory of the Medical Parasitology Unit at the “Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado” in order to separate them from the other insects caught, separating males from females by means of the alcohol technique, placing them on slides and then utilizing the microscope for their classification. 5,475 Lutzomyia (Lu) were captured from which 5308 (96.95%) were Lu. ovallesi, 62 (1.13%) were Lu. trinidadensis and 34 (0.62%) were Lu gomezi. This research has allowed us to recognize and identify certain genres and species of medical interest in the area studied which will allow sanitary departments to control, prevent and avoid proliferation of these species which have been incriminated as potential anthropophilic vectors of Leishmaniasis in Crespo Municipality. Also, the documentary film will contribute in the teaching process in reference to this subject area to members of the School of Medicine on the regional, national and international level.
