Summary:The Book of Ben Sira/Ecclesiasticus includes many prayers or statements concerning prayers in reflection and practice. Lament (distress, sin) and praise (creation, history, anthropology) are both essential for the issue of prayer. The primary subjects of prayer are Sirach’s students, besides the people in general, as well as  examples from history (e.g. David). Motivation to prayer can be found in examples of lifes and in a variety of instructions for application, both with a high degree of reflection.
