Summary:This paper seeks to understand the approach to social responsibility in SMEs linked to the health sector of the southwestern area of Bogota, as a basis for defining a model that supports socially responsible management practices. The methodology considers the application of a survey of 105 SMEs linked to the health sector in the southwestern area of Bogota whose results were consolidated and analyzed by an array in which theoretical approaches to social responsibility are compared a Light four theories: social performance of the company, shareholder value, stakeholder groups and corporate citizenship and practical approaches: core subjects of social responsibility: governance, human rights, labor practices, environment, fair operating practices, issues of consumers and active community participation. According to the results, in terms of theoretical approaches, the socially responsible management of the surveyed SMEs shows a clear trend towards the development of practices that are confined to compliance with regulatory guidelines. With regard to the evaluation of the practical aspects a higher level of performance identified in active participation and the development of the community followed by the adoption of elements of governance.
