Summary: | Herpetic infections are the most common and poorly controlled human infections. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), by age 50, about 90% of adults have been exposed to the virus. The problem of herpetic infections attracts a lot of a physician’s attention. New methods and means of treatment of herpetic diseases will improve the effectiveness of preventive measures. 57 dentists took part in the research. We assessed the frequency of manifestations of diseases of mucous membrane of the mouth and lips, associated with HSV in dental patients and treatment of this pathology. The prevalence of herpetic lesions of the oral cavity is 100% with a predominance of moderate severity of the disease. Most patients self-medicate and limit their treatment by local therapy only. A fairly large percentage of dentists have noted that they prescribed antiviral drugs without taking into account existing standards for the provision of dental care in the diagnosis and treatment of viral lesions of the mucous membrane. The relevance of the research is due to the lack of information about other groups of antiviral drugs. Tactics of treatment should be determined by the degree of severity of the disease and the period of its development. Therapy should be etiological, pathogenic, and symptomatic. The treatment will prolong remission and prevent recurrence of the disease. Antiviral medication, immunomodulators, painkillers, antihistamine drugs are used in the therapy of HSV infection. Acyclovir therapy remains an effective and often less expensive option. These drugs may stop viral replication on the skin but do not eliminate HSV from the body or prevent later outbreaks (HSV reactivation). In these cases it is offered to use «Foskarnet». «Solkoseril», «Metiluracil», «Gengigel», «Holisal» are pathogenetic therapy drugs. They have analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and antimicrobial effect. HSV infections lead to the development of secondary immunodeficiency. It is advisable to use drugs with immunomodulation action. The Interferons are a family of cytokine mediators critically involved in alerting the cellular immune system to viral infection of host cells. Interferons not only exhibit important antiviral effects but also exert a key influence on the quality of the cellular immune responses and amplify antigen presentation to specific T-cells. However, therapy of herpetic lesions should be comprehensive and include general and local therapy that will prolong remission and prevent relapse of the disease. |
