Summary:In the context of debate about how to practice research in architecture, fourteen years after the creation of the architecture PhD in France, the idea of action research would create space for project within research practice. We will study this question by comparatively clarifying the epistemic approach of the “recherché-projet” method and the architecturology theory. This analysis of their divergence and difficulty of their use in research practice allows us to identify their complementarity. Instead of holding these oppositions as unsurmountable, our proposition of architecturology-action is a way to take advantage of the formal frame of architecturology and the method of “recherche-projet” showing how to combine their modalities in a research ecosystem.
