Summary:As a key overvoltage protection device for EHV and UHV series compensation capacitors, forcibly triggered spark gap (hereinafter referred to as GAP) is statistically a vulnerable link with a high failure rate. Therefore, it is imperative to propose a precise and clear field test method that can satisfy maintenance demand. Via the combination of self-discharge voltage measurement with trigger function test in the airtight clearance of traditional maintenance, a collaborative GAP-triggered discharge test comes into existence by optimization, thus expanding the inspection scope, diminishing the range of influence on the existing equipment and wire of series compensator, improving precision and efficiency of GAP in an all-round way. It is verified in practical engineering application that the proposed method is reasonable and effective.
