Summary: | Active mobility is gradually taken into consideration in French public policies. In the 2008-2018 decade different factors (economic, environmental, political...) converged to better take into account walking and cycling in the European metropoles. In particular, the 2008 economic crisis speeded up a long state of deterioration of public finances, questioning the prospect of the sole modal shift towards public transport. In this context, we propose an experience feedback on mobility policies in Lille European Metropole (MEL), more precisely the evolution of the use of active transport modes over the last 10 years. Our method, based on an original use of mobility surveys conducted in Lille in 2006 and 2016 as well as in 1987 and 1997, enables us to observe if the past decade saw the continuation of long term trends or represented a real turning point in mobility from the 2008 crisis. The disaggregated data analysis of the evolution of active mobility practices highlights the influence of two variables: one, individual, with significant contrasts - notably according to age classes-, and another, spatial, with a growing disparity between periphery, more and more dependent on cars, and the centre where active modes are stabilizing, if not increasing as happens with cycling. |
