Synthesis of allyltrimethoxysilane end-capped solution polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber

Allyltrimethoxysilane (TIOS) terminating solution polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) was synthesized by using butadiene and styrene as monomers, n-butyllithium (n-BuLi) as initiator, 2,2-di(2-tetrahydrofuryl)propane as structure regulator , 1,1-diphenylethylene as a capping agent and via an...

Summary:Allyltrimethoxysilane (TIOS) terminating solution polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) was synthesized by using butadiene and styrene as monomers, n-butyllithium (n-BuLi) as initiator, 2,2-di(2-tetrahydrofuryl)propane as structure regulator , 1,1-diphenylethylene as a capping agent and via anionic polymerization. The structure, molecular weight and its distribution of SSBR-TIOS before and after capping were characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography, respectively. The effects of capping reaction time and temperature, TIOS amount and SSBR molecular weight on the terminating efficiency were investigated. The results showed that the terminating efficiency reached the highest value when the capping reaction time was 30 min, reaction temperature was 60 ℃, molar ratio of TIOS/n-BuLi was 2.0 and molecular weight of SSBR was about 60 000.
