It is the work which has sparked the most controversy and critical literary discussions and which has also been the most frequently translated. The author of the article presents five elements (1. title, subtitle and dedications; 2. narration; 3. characteristics of Emma; 4. geographical context; 5. cultural context) which allow us to better understand the advantages and the disadvantages of the project opened by the Polish translators.
