Summary:This literature review is analyzing heart rate (HR) role in the pathogenesis of arterial hypertension (AH) and coronary heart disease (CHD), together with HR prognostic role in assessing cardiovascular event risk. Modern approaches to pharmaceutical CHD treatment in Stage I-II AH patients, are analyzed from the evidence-based medicine point of view. Antianginal and antihypertensive agents' effects on endothelial function and microcirculation in this clinical group are discussed. The recent information on HR-decelerating medications' effects on stable angina clinical course and prognosis is presented. The authors justify the need for further investigation of ivabradine role in combined pharmaceutical treatment of cardiovascular disease.
