Summary: | Abstract Introduction The incidence of workplace violence among healthcare workers (HCW) has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the increased workload has also affected the mental health of HCW. Methods This is a cross-sectional survey conducted at a hospital specializing in infectious diseases, and standardized scales were used to investigate violence and burnout, to explore the association between violent incidents and occupational burnout. Results The study surveyed 675 HCW and found that 35.11% of the HCW surveyed reported experiencing violence, and 52.44% exhibited symptoms of burnout, with an average score of 4.15 ± 2.93. The study found that violence incidents had a significant impact on the burnout of HCW, with those who experienced violence exhibiting more severe emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and burnout. And the risk of burnout was 1.611 times higher for those who experienced psychological violence compared to those who did not (OR=1.611, P=0.010). Those who had a higher degree of concern about violence (OR=1.686, P<0.001), the higher the risk of burnout. Discussion The study highlights the negative impact of violence on the burnout of HCW. The study suggests that effective measures should be taken at different levels such as individual, organization and government, and promote the well-being of HCW. Conclusion In conclusion, workplace violence can lead to an increase in the level of burnout among HCW, which has adverse effects on their mental health. The study emphasizes the importance of taking effective measures to prevent violence and reduce burnout among HCW. |
