Based on the summarization of literatures on the regulation of electrogastroenterography (EGEG) with acupuncture, the regulation effect of acupuncture, its impact factors as well as its mechanism on EGEG were analyzed in this article. It is found that the regulation effect on EGEG with acupuncture at acupoints can be impacted by various factors. The different needling techniques, electric frequency, acupoint selection, manipulations and the physical condition of the subjects may all result in different acupuncture efficacies, presenting a great deal of variety, such as enhancement, inhibition or dual-directional regulation. The regulation effect of acupuncture on EGEG relies on the integrity of the nerve system, in which, nuclei, neurotransmitters, body fluids and gastrointestinal (G1) hormone play the roles in acupuncture efficacy. Hence, the mechanism study on it should be enhanced in future.
