Summary:Dialect, along with being systematically exploited in the national films and, since the 1970s, also in dubbed foreign ones, has arrived to animated films, where it can fulfil three different functions: imitative function, when the dialect replaces another variety, used in the original version; creative function, when it appears even though the original character does not use any diatopic variety; and connotative one, when we deal with the reconstruction of the character through the language. In this case dialect connotes stereotypical qualities which attribute some kind of new identity to the hero.
