Summary:The city outskirts begin to represent a literary topic, especially during the period of the two World Wars. It was a time when an important number of Romanian and Jewish writers approach suburbia in order to present a new human typology, that of common, ordinary people, with no exceptional destinies, yet with deep experiences, sometimes rather violent, that nevertheless deserve to be turned to good account artistically. I. Peltz intents, thorough the characters of one of his most important novels (Calea Văcăreşti), to reveal the Jewish suburbanite whose life does not essentially differ from that of the Romanian ones, as it was described by authors like Carol Ardeleanu, George Mihail-Zamfirescu or Tudor Teodorescu-Branişte. At the same time, the novel may be interpreted as a counterpoise to the cultural image of the Jew in Romanian culture and literature.
