O „punte” între culturi: Eminescu în limba maghiară

Translations from Eminescu’s work gather 140 years off efforts spread into about 50 idioms. There are high differences between the original and the translations. The author makes an overview about the principal language in witch Eminescu was translated, (German, French, Italian, English and especially Hungarian) and tries to offer a few answers for the state of facts. The main conclusions are that the imperfect character of any owes to the many forma mentis expressions employed by the poet. Moreover, a good translation is still an unaccomplished desire, In addition to this, most of the editors were financed by the Romanian state and most of the translators are Romanians, that means the poet was not considered an “artist”, but a “cultural ambassador”, and therefore, the esthetic value was diminished. We must also take into account that the foreign translators are in fact critics (a few of them wrote excellent exegeses about Eminescu). In conclusion, the number (very impressive) of the versions in different languages, on any side, and the statistic dates on the other side, can not take the place of very good translations, which are still waited. In this context, the Hungarian Language has taken an very important place, owed between other things to the direct cultural contact and the bilingualism.
