Summary:Lobin's paper is principally distinguished for its professional and complex approach towards the analysis of military history sources which allows to ascertain approximate numbers of the Russian army in the 16th century. The reviewer suggests more accurate estimation of the numbers and structure of the voyevodskie polki (voivod's regiments) and the sotni (100-man units) of gentry cavalry. Another point of criticism concerns the interpretation of the numerical data found in the zapisnaya kniga of the Polotsk Campaign (1562-1563).
