Summary:In the 19th century, Italy was torn apart by internal contradictions and external threats. The Italian people face the urgent task of achieving national unity and independence. In such a historical setting, the great opera composer Verdi was born, whose operas inspired the patriotic enthusiasm of Italians and sustained their fighting spirit. In this article, an attempt is made to gain a deeper insight into Verdi’s idea of opera as a weapon of patriotism on the example of the Nabucco opera.
