Summary:Small states like the Republic of Moldova need a big foreign policy. In the context of the new geopolitical changes in the international arena, the Republic of Moldova is faced with the fait accompli to promote a clear and unambiguous foreign policy. Therefore, the Republic of Moldova must take an active position in these processes and adapt its foreign policy in order to align with global trends and benefit from the opportunities and challenges they offer. This article aims to analyse the foreign policy of the Republic of Moldova from the perspective of the national interest that has taken new forms under the influence of European integration processes. The proposed research mode is the retrospective study of the evolutionary and historical course since the Republic of Moldova submitted its signature to the Commonwealth of Independent States in 1991, in opposition to the current changes in deepening the European integration process by obtaining the state of candidate country to the European Union in 2022. In the context of the current geopolitical situation, with the inefficiency of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the increasingly hostile aggression on the part of Russia, integration into the European Union and the structures of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation becomes essential for the post-Soviet states of Eastern Europe. Therefore, studying the foreign policy of the Republic of Moldova and the national interest, which is inextricably linked to it, is an immediate necessity dictated by time.
