Microstructure and Texture Design of NiAl via Thermomechanical Processing

Processing of NiAl polycrystals at different temperatures by axisymmetric deformation (extrusion through a round die, uniaxial compression) and plane strain deformation (extrusion through a rectangular die, rolling) leads to specific textures. Depending on temperature and strain, dynamic recrystalli...

Summary:Processing of NiAl polycrystals at different temperatures by axisymmetric deformation (extrusion through a round die, uniaxial compression) and plane strain deformation (extrusion through a rectangular die, rolling) leads to specific textures. Depending on temperature and strain, dynamic recrystallization takes place, whereas annealing leads to static recrystallization. In general, the microstructures and textures of NiAl are changed by recrystallization. The development of the deformation and recrystallization textures by thermomechanical treatment is discussed by means of different models on polycrystal deformation and recrystallization, respectively. Conclusions concerning the anisotropy of the elastic and plastic properties are drawn.
