Summary:Routing strategy plays important role on energy consumption of wireless sensor networks. This paper analyzed the influencing factors of energy consumption for grid topology, and decomposed the overall energy consumption into two parts, i.e. the energy consumption for node standing-by and that for transmission. Pointed out that delay-minimization routing and load-balance routing can decrease above two types of energy consumptions respectively. However, none of them can minimize the overall energy consumption. With multi-channel and TDMA media-access, this paper proposed a dual-access-mode hybrid routing strategy that adopts different routing methods at different positions of topology. Simulation in OMNet++ showed that this strategy leads to load balance and low transmission delay, and helps to minimize the overall energy consumption.
