Summary:Using Policy based management, the administration process can be simplified and largely automated. However, the conflict detection in specifying rules for policy-based networks remains an important problem to solve because the introduction of a new rule may contradict or duplicate each other. We propose a probabilistic heuristic method to guide the detection conflict algorithm. We present the performance results and an interactive java-based policy management tool editor which was designed for specifying the rules and detecting the conflicts among rules.
