Fundamental study of a large-thermoacoustic system - Effect of cross-sectional-area changes in a loop tube upon onset temperature

The onset temperature of a loop-tube-type thermoacoustic system was experimentally examined under changes to the inner diameter. This diameter was set to values of 24.2, 42.6, and 95.6 mm; onset temperatures at these diameters were found to be 623, 329, and 121 °C, respectively. In addition, dissipa...

Summary:The onset temperature of a loop-tube-type thermoacoustic system was experimentally examined under changes to the inner diameter. This diameter was set to values of 24.2, 42.6, and 95.6 mm; onset temperatures at these diameters were found to be 623, 329, and 121 °C, respectively. In addition, dissipation in the system was confirmed to increase as the inner diameter decreased. The smaller the inner diameter, the closer the phase at the upper end of the prime mover is to that of the traveling wave. The authors believe that the generation of this acoustic streaming is related to the high onset temperature and the large dissipation.
