Summary:Series of diorganosilicon(IV) and diorganotin(IV) complexes having the formulae R2MCl(L-1), R2MCl(L-2), R2MCl(L-3), R2MCl(L-4), R2M(L-1)(2), R2M(L-2)(2), R2M(L-3)(2) and R2M(L-4)(2), where M = Si and Sn, R = CH3, have been synthesized. All the complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance and spectroscopic studies including UV, IR, H-1, C-13, Si-29 and Sn-119 NMR. On the bases of these studies, the five and six coordinated complexes have been proposed to have trigonal bipyramidal and octahedral geometries respectively.
