Synthesis and characterization of some unsymmetrically-substituted mesoporphyrinic mono-hydroxyphenyl complexes of copper(II)

A series of four copper(II) complexes, with porphyrinic ligands: 5,10,15,20-tetrakis- phenyl-21,23-H-porphine (TPP), 5-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tri-phenyl-21,23-H-porphine (TPPOHp), 5-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tri-phenyl-21,23-H-porphine (TPPOHm), 5-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tri-phenyl-21,23-H-p...

Summary:A series of four copper(II) complexes, with porphyrinic ligands: 5,10,15,20-tetrakis- phenyl-21,23-H-porphine (TPP), 5-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tri-phenyl-21,23-H-porphine (TPPOHp), 5-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tri-phenyl-21,23-H-porphine (TPPOHm), 5-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tri-phenyl-21,23-H-porphine (TPPOHo), were synthesized in a 1: 1 molar ratio and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, EPR, and UV-Vis spectroscopies. In all cases, the free-base porphrin operated as tetradentate ligands through the four pyrrole nitrogen atoms. Elemental analysis, EPP, FTIR and UV-Vis fully confirmed the structure of the complexes. Finally, UV-Vis showed that the spectral absorption of the four complexes was blue shifted by about 50 nm compared to that of the metal-free ligands.
